Dear JUNTOS family,
Today, we celebrate a wonderful year of creating positive change through dance with a decade of programming. As our 2017-18 year comes to a close, we realize the difference dance can make in someone’s life by creating self-confidence, bodily autonomy and connecting those who might not otherwise meet.
Our year has been filled with exciting new programs and staff. Last year we held our inaugural New York Membership program, a semester-long program designed for advanced dance students to reach their surrounding neighborhoods and volunteer to teach dance in underserved communities in New York City.
Here are a few things you can look forward to coming this year:
- JUNTOSYouth, a nine-day trip for high school dancers to travel to Oaxaca, Mexico to volunteer through dance outreach.
- Expansion on local and international programming, with the help of three new staff members: East Coast Program Director Julia Horner, Administrative Assistant Karly Burton, International Relations Sussan Hrozek.
As we wrap up our year, we seek to raise $10,000 during our Giving Tuesday campaign on November 27th, 2018 to support the continued expansion of our programming.
Last year, we raised $10,345 with the help of 51 donors, all to support international programming. This year we are focusing on our New York and Boston programs, expanding our reach to local communities such as KIND in New York, an organization that protects unaccompanied immigrant children, and Rosie’s Place in Boston, a sanctuary for poor and homeless women.
On behalf of our collaborators, participants, board and the communities we serve, thank you for your generosity. It is because of people like you we are able to thrive and push forward. We really couldn’t do it without you.
Director, JUNTOS Collective
