This May, JUNTOSAbroad sets forth to celebrate our 21st JUNTOS trip and our 10th trip to Guatemala. Our journey begins in Livingston, where we teach workshops and perform with children, learning more about Garifuna culture. We then travel to Xela, performing and teaching in various places: a school for the deaf, public hospital, and public elementary school in a neighboring Maya village. In Retalhuleu, we are greeted by dancers from Xetulul during the day, and dancers form the village at night. Antigua is next, where we perform in communities such as an HIV+ center for children and a retirement home. We finish our trip in Guatemala City where we work with local dancers.
