In March 2013, five students from Ailey/Fordham and LINES/Dominican took off to Guatemala for eight days of travel. Spending a little time in Panajachel and Antigua, the students spent most of their time in Xela with friends in various communities around Guatemala. Instead of visiting multiple cities, JUNTOS invited groups from all over Guatemala to Xela to take part in one large workshop…. The culmination being a Flash mob! For the first time ever, hundreds of people danced together in Xela’s Central Park. With the help from friends in various communities in Retalhuleu (dancers from the Xetulul theme park), Xela (Bakanos Dance Studio, Guajiro Salsa, and Escuela de Dr. Rodolfo Robles), and JUNTOS dancers from the United States, we gathered in Xela’s Central Park and began dancing to Jennifer Lopez. Before long children joined us and shortly after, various observers abandoned their seats to join our dance.
