The JUNTOS Alumni Board expands the JUNTOS mission by creating a network of engaged alumni. Through collaboration, networking, and mentorship we empower our alumni and current dance volunteers to become leaders in the global dance community.

The JUNTOS Alumni Board was founded in January 2019 with members Quinton Guthier, Alexis Staley, Julianna Bulgarelli, and Julia Horner. The current board began September 2019 and will serve until September 2020. The 2019/2020 board’s focus has been to re-engage our alumni network by producing our first Alumni Newsletter, as well as organizing events that provide community oriented panels, workshops, and networking events for JUNTOS Alumni and current dance volunteers. The board is now in the midst of revamping the JUNTOS Alumni Facebook page, as a way of finding virtual connection and collaboration, as our network expands across sates, countries, and careers.

MEET THE 2019/2020 BOARD!

Board Secretary: Michaela Ellingson received her BFA in dance from SUNY Purchase where she was introduced to JUNTOS and during her undergrad had the opportunity to travel to Guatemala, Nicaragua and Costa Rica with JUNTOS. Michaela received her MA in dance from London Contemporary Dance School and currently lives in Jackson, Wyoming where she dances with Contemporary Dance Wyoming and directs a youth dance company. Michaela joined JUNTOSYouth in Oaxaca with six of her students last summer. Michaela is interested in continuing to find ways for the JUNTOS community to stay connected and cultivating opportunities for all alumni to be involved.

Programs/Events Coordinator: Julianna Bulgarelli graduated magna cum laude in 2015 from Fordham University/The Ailey School, earning a BFA in Dance and Spanish Studies.  She became involved with JUNTOS collective her freshman year, performing and teaching dance workshops in Mexico, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and New York City. Currently based in Los Angeles, Julianna is on faculty at The Colburn School’s Trudl Zipper Dance Institute, Hope Street Family Center and South Pasadena High School. As a choreographer, she has presented work with Terra Nova Residency program, Keshet Dance and was a guest teacher at Academia Sabik in Costa Rica. In 2019, she became an apprentice with JazzAntiqua Dance & Music Ensemble and made her debut with the company in October. As a JUNTOS Alumni Board member, she is thrilled to be a part of a team dedicated to building cross-cultural connections through the arts.

Board Treasurer: Caroline Shriver received a BFA from Fordham University and the Alvin Ailey School. After traveling with JUNTOS to Mexico and Nicaragua, she was inspired to supplement her dance major with a second major in Latin American Studies. In 2018 she was awarded the Fordham undergraduate research grant to fund her JUNTOSAmbassador capstone project in Colombia. While teaching dance she researched the positive impacts of dance on youth development and published her final paper in the Fordham Undergraduate Research Journal. In 2019, she served as the assistant to the program director on Juntos’s first trip to Colombia and this January she served as a trip leader for JUNTOSImmersion in Mexico. Caroline is excited to continue to work with JUNTOS, discovering new ways to share dance around the world!

Board Chair: Julia Horner graduated from the Ailey/Fordham BFA Program in 2017. She is now based in New York City and is a freelance dancer, dance teacher, and JUNTOS Collective Communications Manager. She began working with JUNTOS her sophomore year of college, traveling on all abroad trips. She then completed the JUNTOSAmbassador Program and was hired on staff in 2018. Julia founded the Alumni Board in 2019 to explore new ways to connect the expansive JUNTOS Alumni Network, provide mentorship to current participants, and provide networking and educational opportunities to the JUNTOS Community.
